Describe your eldest family member.
Ah, I’m actually not sure who the eldest member of the family is? I know that sounds bad but a while back I would have said my great grandmother but sadly she passed away about a year ago and I’m not really sure the ages of everyone else in the family. I know I should really dive into my genealogy. Trust me it’s been nagging at my soul. So instead I’m going to switch this one up and do my own play – describing the eldest story of a family member. Aka family lore or kinda like a story in the family or something along those lines? Like a story we were told growing up and that I plan to tell my kids when I have them?
Just to keep the memories alive.
My grandfather he was an interesting character. And he had a nub for a finger on one of his hands (I believe it was his ring finger, I just can’t remember which one, I was younger when he passed) I promise this is important to the story. Now grandpa he told me and my brother that he was hungry and wanted a snack one day and that grandma she wouldn’t make him one or go to the store to buy one. Specifically it was a butterfinger. So, Grandpa being the clever man he was well he went in there and made his own butterfinger! He ate his own finger!
He probably laughed at me for a good long bit from wherever he is because I was sixteen and still full heartily believed that he ate his own finger. This is the lore I grew up with and I was sticking with it! But it turns out don’t worry my grandma didn’t not feed him, my grandpa was a trucker and my mom told me that it was some sort of accident with one of the chains or something I can’t recall – I’d have to ask her again and update the post. But that was how he actually lost the finger.
However I plan to tell the tale how he did, to my kids and hope they pass the lore down to theirs. I have many other family lore stories but to be honest Grandpa deserves a mention. His stories are all we have. That’s honestly all we have of any of us. I just – well I guess I’m feeling nostalgic. I miss him. Sometimes I think about things and I kinda wonder if he would like the woman I am, I know he was just my grandpa but I don’t know.
Anyway let me know any strange family lore you have? Also tell me if this should be a side quest we go into? Family stories and lore I mean?
