A stage and a projector screen. I fear what is to come after dark though I must admit this does look like one hell of a party. I can’t fully be mad. I’m not mad, I’m just worried, anxious? I’m bad at naming my feelings.
I introduced Connor to everyone, getting him equated before having to take a minute to go give the promised tour to Abby, Chance, Kris and Keith. When we got to the office Abby and I got swept away talking about how I was planning to make the background for vlogs while, talking about the other plans that were going to be unfolding as these big events kept happening. Like we were doing not only a livestream of the release but a few different special videos, one of which would be behind the scenes, and it would be a special release for our paid members. We talked a lot about those kinds of things because I didn’t like having a lot of content behind pay walls but at the same time, we needed special content for the people who did pay. So, while I didn’t do an excessive amount of paywall content, I still had some epic stuff there.
When I got back outside, I couldn’t help myself, I needed to help more. I felt bad for being gone as long as I had been. More guests had arrived and Maddy and Amy were trying to get the last of the floats blown up and get the stage decorated and photos. While Bell was directing where to put coolers, side dishes and gifts as everyone really piled in.
“Just let me help you! It’s my house!” I plead with my friends as they both shewed me away.
“Exactly! Your house, your party, you host! Go back to hosting!” Amy demands.
“I have to help!”
“Hosting is helping, now go! Go change the music or something.”
I argued with them for a few minutes trying to get my claws back into some work. I wasn’t good at doing nothing. I had to help. I liked helping. Making sure everything was perfect. But luckily for them Micky and Connor walked back out, and they had Braden and Tate with them, it’s extra rude to not greet your boss. After greeting them, I apologized again to Connor and went to get Jake to top off my drink.
“Your boss brought champagne?” He asks with a smile. “Do you even drink that shit?”
“Mhm. It’s especially important at events like this. It’s historically and energetically important. Just go with it.” I smile as I restart my playlist. “This one’s for you Jakey, I love you.” I laugh, turning the volume up on “Choosin’ Texas” by Ella Langley.
“Finally, something GOOD!”
After a little bit of impromptu karaoke with Jake. I made one more trip around with the people who were here for now, making quick head count and we were still waiting on a few of our guests. The total head count of the night would end up at thirty-three with Braden here, though, we’re prepared for forty, because some of our guests, like Jake, tend to invite extras who then bring a friend which is fine… but still we have to plan ahead.
“Sorry about that.” I say as I walk over and give Micky a hug.
“What are you drinking?” Micky asks.
“Um, Jamison and Dr Pepper. It’s not strong. Also, we’re still waiting for either thirteen or fifteen. My count is fucked up, and if Jake’s friend is bringing a friend.” I sigh. “So… it’s either the thirty-three we planned for or all forty, if it goes over forty we’re out of favors… we did them custom… except the extras.”
“She’s fancy.” Braden laughs.
“Here, take my seat, take a load off.” Connor laughs. “You need a break.”
“I’m the host, they don’t sit?” I say with a smile, half joking half brutal truths.
“Yeah, and everyone’s here for right now, you can take a break.” He and Micky say together. “He’s right, chill and talk to him for a bit or hit the pool. It’s your party, don’t overthink it. It’s an Ellsworth masterpiece.” Micky laughs. “Even the music.”
“Especially the music.” Connor agrees. “I haven’t listened to George Straight in forever.”
“Thank you, at least someone gets it.” I smile as I take him up on the chair. “Wait when did that get there?” I point to the picnic table by my fence.
“Cas sent it. She also sent you a card and a bouquet. I gave it to Bell.” Braden shrugs.
“Yeah, and bonfire pit is set up, obviously we can move it all around after the yard is not a party ground?” Micky says pointing to the pit where Drew and Milo were working on getting a fire started. “We have a bit of gardening supplies out in the garage though, to get your little oasis started.”
“Awe, that’s so sweet, thank you guys.” I gush.
“Are we sure they know how to start a fire?” Braden asks. “They are city kids?”
“Oh, they know fire. They’re just half lit, you should probably go help em though. Oh, and Drew knows about the incident. He does too.” Micky points to Connor.
“Yeah…I do kind of remember saying that. Sorry.” I say turning my drink up.
“Well.” He shrugs. “Call it even if you put in a good word for me with the tall brunette who’s evil?”
“I can’t do that…”
“Why?”
“Dude, Bell is a lesbian.” Micky says with a laugh.
“What about the redhead?”
“She’s been flirting with Drew all night, but you can try, I’ll talk to her, but don’t do anything weird she’s, my editor.” I shrug.
“Good deal, okay. You’re pretty chill ice queen. You always have been.”
“You to hotshot. Good luck!”
We gave him a minute to get out of earshot before Connor asks with a smile; “He has no chance, does he?” Connor laughs.
“Not really, no offense to Braden but he’s not her type. He’s a good ole boy. Just want to grab his little cheeks and squish em.” I laughed cracking myself up, shit I might be a little tipsy.
“How many have you had?” Micky asks with a laugh.
“That’s amazing, have you told him that?” Connor asks with a grin, one to die for.
“Oh yeah. Plenty of times. That’s why I couldn’t phantom him liking me.” I smile.
“And what is Connor?” Micky asks, stirring the pot. “You do know they look similar right?”
“I know, but they don’t look that similar, Hotshot still has that baby face. And the tattoos, I should shut up…” I smile covering my drink and sliding down in the chair.
“I think you should keep talking.” Connor smiles, though thankfully we were interrupted before I could dig my hole further. My dog came running over covered in mud again and shaking off in front of us.
“GHASTON! We said fetch the ball not shake mud on them!” Drew yells from across the lawn.
“Oh my god,” I gasp, laughing and trying not to choke on my drink. “I’m so sorry Connor! He’s so bad.”
“Not the first time I’ve had a dog throw mud in my face. Especially not today.” He laughs.
“You were supposed to be able to relax and unwind…oh no.”
“It’s honestly fine.” He laughs.
“How about that dip in the pool?” Milo laughs as he comes over, laughing as he glances between the three of us. “Want those trunks?”
“Yeah, sounds good…” Connor laughs. “What do you think Huntleigh?”
“Definitely.”
